I would like to be considered for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of ◯◯◯ at the University of XXXX. I learned about your search for a new faculty member from △△△ and the website of your department. My postdoctoral supervisor, Dr. □□□, told me that your department has a great research environment and encouraged me to apply for this position.
My research investigates the neural basis of motor learning, using a combination of molecular-genetic, pharmacological and in vivo electrophysiological approaches in the oculomotor system, which is well-defined behavior. In particular, I am going to investigate the contribution of particular neuronal populations to motor learning by using new molecular-genetic techniques, Optogenetics, and the contribution of a particular molecular signaling pathway, which is related to human diseases with motor deficits. The progress I make in the oculomotor system could have broad implications, both in terms of basic understanding of the principles of brain function, and in the design of clinical therapies.
I have published ## peer reviewed research articles, # review articles and obtained a ☆☆☆ long-term fellowship and other fellowship support for my work. My research is well suited for an environment to bridge different levels, molecular, circuits and behavior by using a variety of tools. I am particularly interested in University of XXXX because I heard that there are a number of researchers with complementary research programs, with whom I may develop productive collaborations from basic research to translational and clinical studies.
Attached are a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a statement of research interests, a teaching statement and the names and contact information for three references.
Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to hearing from you.
